BLOGS WE LIKE

As a Philadelphia sports fan, your passion borders on being unhealthy. A good day would involve buying Matt Stairs 100 beers and punching Adam Eaton in the face. Donovan McNabb WAS equal parts franchise QB and anti-christ depending on his 3rd down splits. Rod Brind'Amour's nose is the single greatest appendage in Philadelphia sports history. Allen Iverson? He's really 6'7". Matt Geiger? 5'4".

At PhillyPhaithful, we understand because we feel the same way. Thankfully, we're not alone. We've spent way too much time on the Philadelphia sports blogsphere and found a wealth of talented, opinionated and witty writers whose words we couldn't live without. They are the pulse of the sports scene that is way too effective in altering our mood. When you're done buying shirts on PhillyPhaithful be sure to hit up the sites listed below. The majority are locally themed, but there are a smattering of other sites we think you should make a part of your daily 'what-you-actually-do-at-work' routine.

If you have a blog that you want us to check out, email us at info@phillyphaithful.com.

PHILLY GAMEDAY

Loosely modeled as a Philadelphia sports version of the Onion, Philly Gameday touts itself as "thorough, but extremely loose coverage of Philadelphia-area sports." Among the hilarious pieces: the article tabbing Kyle Kendrick as "very touchable" (also one of our favorite single pieces of writing this year), the story about Lidge's capability to somehow even blow a blown save, and Uncle Charlie talking about Cliff Lee's demotion the NL. For those that like sports and satire, Philly Gameday is a must-read.

RECLINER GM

I could tell you about the well-researched articles and the positive press they've gotten on SI.com, NBA.com and The Sports Dollar. But I'd rather just point to the fact that they have an article on the 10 Best Marc Zumoffisms of all-time. DIPS IN, STROKES TWO!

iSPORTACUS

iSportacus is a local sports website for the more discerning Philadelphia sports fan. Funny yet informative, they 'don't cover events as much as they cover the people playing them and the fans cheering the local teams on'. They also look back at historical Philadelphia squads and offer Philadelphia sports trivia, which is always gratifying in helping to inflame our over-competitive genes.

PHANATICS (NBC PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES BLOG)

We know you like the Phillies. Well. Actually. You love the Phillies in a pseudo-stalker, I need to know what they're doing at all times kind of way. Trust me. We're right there with you. And fortunately, so is the Phanatics Phillies blog over at NBC Philadelphia online. For all the best Phillies information, news, stories and opinion, you've got to check it out.

EAGLES PERCH

Are you into torturing yourself for 3 hours every Sunday afternoon for 4-5 months? Do you turn to alcoholic beverages to make you forget about play-calling? Welcome Eagles fans. We feel ya. And the guys over at the Eagles Perch blog at the Courier Post do too. For comprehensive Eagles coverage, including analysis, live blogs and a humorous take on the team we hate to love, head over to the Eagles Perch.

PHILS-VILLE

A very enjoyable blend of analysis, opinion and newsworthy items from Fightin' Phils nation is what makes the Phils-Ville blog at PhillyBurbs.com a must-read for fans. Smart and knowledgable without being pretentious, funny and clever without feeling cheesy, Phils-Ville helped us (at least temporarily) get over the sting of a World Series loss by introducing us to Laura Posada, wife of the goofy-looking, defensively inadequate Yankees catcher Jorge. And you wonder why he doesn't put in enough time on his defense.

CRASHBURN ALLEY

If you're into Phillies baseball and you love stats, Crashburn Alley is the place for you. Bill Baer provides a wide range of statiscal analysis to go along with excellent Phillies-centric commentary, giving you more than enough ammo to win any water cooler argument. Baer's hitter and pitcher matchup splits are particularly useful if you want to know how any one player has fared against a particular opponent in the series. Yeah, we really just don't hit Kip Wells.

PUCK DADDY

We love our hockey at PhillyPhaithful and when it comes to anything from the land of frozen water, it doesn't get better than Puck Daddy at Yahoo! Sports. Editor Greg Wyshynski blends humor with analysis and observation, and brings together everything of interest from across the league in the always entertaining Puck Headlines section. Definitely a must-read for hockey fans.

NAISMITH LIVES

A basketball web site for the basketball purist, Naismith Lives dissects the game at all levels, from high school to the pros. Founder and Senior Writer Adam Stanco is a nationally recognized basketball guru who appears in a weekly segment on ESPN radio...and can also name with shocking and uncomfortable accuracy the college of every player to ever lace up a pair of Air Jordans. For those who can't get enough of round ball, there is not a better read than Naismith Lives.

WE SHOULD BE GM'S

A funny and insightful look into the Philadelphia Phillies present, past, and future, We Should Be GM's is a perfect blend of pop culture, humor, and baseball. Any site that prominently and PROUDLY features the baseball card of Steve Jeltz with a pencil thin mustache is a must see by our standards.

THE PIAZZA AT SCHMIDTS

While it's not a blog in the traditional sense of the word, we'd be remiss not to mention the Piazza at Schmidt's and it's outdoor market in this section. You can find PhillyPhaithful vending there all summer, as well as many other fantastic and uniques offerings from clothing to jewelry to organic eats. For a truly awesome, one-of-a-kind outdoor setting, definitely head down to Northern Liberties and the Piazza this summer.

PUCKDRAWN.COM

Less of a traditional sports blog and more of a creative outlet for hockey fans, PuckDrawn.com is a totally shweeeeeet visual journey into the world of jersey design. From rebranding competitions to updates on design work across the sport, if you're a hockey fan with a creative itch, do yourself a favor and check out the eye candy at PuckDrawn.

TENNIS SERVED FRESH

TennisServedFresh is a tennis arts, fashion and culture blog, covering the modern tennis game through a different lense. Didn't think tennis was more than white shorts and polite clapping? TSF digs up the dirt on the players' apparel, scoops out entertaining tennis-world Twitters and finds the weirdest, most entertaining pieces of fashion news you never knew existed (yes, there are such things are cheetah-print tennis balls).

THE FLYERS HIVE

Bleeding Orange and Black is what it's all about and the guys over at the Flyers Hive have one of the strongest Flyers communities on the 'net. From forums and message boards to game recaps and photo galleries, it's your one stop shop for everything pucks in Philadelphia.

PHILLY SPORTS CHAT

The name says it all. At Philly Sports Chat, the focus is on exactly that. Philly. Sports. And chatting about Philly sports. One particularly cool feature of the site is "The Fan's Voice", a section of the blog that allows a forum for others to add their thoughts and articles to the growing collection on the main part of the site.

THE HOUSE THAT GLANVILLE BUILT

Giving props to the paper-thin, hitting machine that was Doug Glanville--a Penn alum no less--this all-things-Philadelphia blog is a self-described 'collection of musings from the World Fucking Champions vantage point.' An entertaining mix of observation, information and multimedia, if you want to get all major Philadelphia sports news in one place, look no further.

HOCKEYTSHIRT.NET

Hockey and tee shirts. We know a little something about that here at PhillyPhaithful, but the boys over at Hockey T Shirt.net literally devote their entire site to the dynamite 1-2 combination--1-2-3 if you include cheap domestic beer. Pennsylvania hockey diehards John and Tommy review hockey apparel from across the net, adding their own spin to the greatest sport on earth. Puckheads rejoice!

WE'RE THE TEAM TO BEAT

Although the question at hand has largely been settled, Phillies World Phuckin Champs fan Mike Mariano and Mets fan (be patient, wait for me to finish) Matt Ryan came up with a novel idea: create a blog with news from both sides of the renewed rivalry and provide a forum for the two fanbases to interact and engage in friendly, non-antagonistic, polite conversation. OK, so We're the Team to Beat might not encourage chivalry per se, but it does allow for a lively debate and it's one worth checking out if you're a Phils fan who enjoys seeing this face on the regular.

THE SHIBE TIMES

Simply put, just a solid all-around Phillies blog. Commenting largely on the state of the franchise--both past and present--The Shibe Times is well-written and informative and is also an excellent jumping off point for all things Phillies; news, statistics, links and generally what's going on at the Bank.

BALLS, STICKS, & STUFF

Described as being a place for 'Phillies, Eagles, golf and other matters of great importance', Balls, Sticks & Stuff was created as a forum for 'semi-intelligent' discussion of the Phils. It's safe to say that despite establishing the bar (sarcastically) low, BS&S guru Tom 'Doc' Goyne has smashed all expectations by fostering what we'd like to call 'supremely intelligent' discussion of local Philadelphia sports. Check it out for yourself today.

SWING AND A LONG DRIVE

Phillies, Phillies and more Phillies. Amanda Orr of Phillies Nation keeps this blog running with all the latest Phils news, info and analysis one could ever need.

BROAD STREET BULLY BLOG

All Flyers hockey, all the time. Just the way we like it. Opinions, analysis and everything Orange and Black make the Broad Street Bully Blog a solid bet for Flyers fans.

PHOULBALLZ.COM

1) PhoulBallz is The Shore Sports Network's Phillies baseball weblog. 2) PhoulBallz is a terrific source for everything Phillies. 3) PhoulBallz is entertaining to read.. 4) All of the above

PHILLIES PHOLLOWERS

Apparently we don't have a monopoly on the PH prefix on words that usually begin with F. Once we put our disbelief aside, we had to tip our cap to Jenn, whose Phillies Phollowers blog is truly worth frequent perusal. Part of the MLB Network of blogs, Jenn's motto 'Peace, Love & Baseball' is something we can definitely get down with.

HIGH HOPES

One man. One blog. Copious amounts of Philadelphia sports. Shay Roddy runs the powerhouse that is High Hopes and while he might have help penning the interesting opinion pieces now, the man behind the blog forgets more about this cities' sports teams than we'll ever know. Check it out today
